Encana Reaches Compensation Deal for Sour Gas Leak by 250 News, September 14, 2012
Dawson Creek, B.C.- Encana Corporation will contribute $250,000 towards community health and safety projects in northeast B.C. as a result of the company’s participation in a Community Environmental Justice Forum held in Dawson Creek. The forum was the result of the sour gas leak near Pouce Coupe nearly three years ago. The leak was the result of internal erosion in the pipe. Encan has accepted full responsibility for the leak. The forum brought together all the parties impacted by the gas leak . They identified the initiatives Encana will support as compensation.
The $250 thousand will be used to:
• upgrade facilities and equipment at the Pouce Coupe Fire department,
• pay for 1/3 of the cost of a rural interface fire trcuk as well as emergency evacuation preparedness at the Tate Creek Community Centre in Tomslake and
• wetlands environmental enhancement projects overseen by Ducks Unlimited Canada within the South Peace region
