A town council on the Northern Peninsula has raised a lot of questions about fracking plans near Gros Morne National Park. Tony Howell, deputy mayor of Woody Point and chair of the area’s emergency planning committee, said it’s important to know what chemicals will be used to help crack the rock. “Different chemicals require different breathing apparatuses – different types of suits to be worn,” Howell said. “What [does] that type of chemical react to, if you use the wrong type of cleanup material? That could lead into a lot of problems.” Howell said emergency responders in the area would need time to prepare in the event of an accident on site. [Emphasis added]
