The businesses most opposed to government regulation in Alberta profit from the exploitation of mineral resources owned 100 per cent by the Albertan people. More often than not, these businesses are owned by foreign shareholders who delight at the record profits being earned by their investment, yet do not have to bear the consequences of development of a dirty, resource-intensive industry in their backyard.
