DEANVILLE, Tex. (KBTX) – One contractor has died and three others have been taken by helicopter to hospitals in Houston and Austin following an oil well blowout in Burleson County.

That’s according to a spokesman for Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy.

The deadly blowout occurred on the company’s worksite Wednesday afternoon along County Road 127 southwest of Caldwell.

First responders and an oilfield response specialist team remain on location and will likely be there overnight.

No names have been released at this time.

Burleson County authorities said the fire was reported at 3:30 p.m. on the Wendl and Daniel H 1 H well.

Representatives from Chesapeake Energy are also on-site investigating the cause of the blast.

The American Red Cross is also on the scene providing rehab to crews and first responders.

A spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety said no evacuations ordered but County Road 127 was temporarily closed immediately after the explosion.

Burleson County emergency crews received mutual aid assistance from multiple other agencies across the Brazos Valley including College Station Fire Department’s HAZMAT unit.

At 8:00 p.m. the roadway was back open but there is still heavy traffic from crews entering and leaving the worksite. It appeared the fire was out at last check.

A contractor is dead and three people were severely burned after an explosion at an oil rig in Burleson County.

According to Chesapeake Energy Corporation, who owns the wellsite, a fire was reported around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Caldwell Fire & Rescue initially reported an oil well blow out injured multiple people south of Caldwell on CR-127 off of FM-60.

Chesapeake Energy Corporation says a Chesapeake Energy contractor died as a result of the incident. Three others were transported via helicopters to medical facilities in Austin and Houston.

First responders and oilfield emergency response specialist Boots & Coots are on location.

CALDWELL, TX — Three people were severely burned and one person is missing after an explosion at an oil rig in Burleson County.

Caldwell Fire & Rescue says an oil well blow out has injured multiple people south of Caldwell on CR-127 off of FM-60.

Caldwell Fire says there is still an active fire burning. Firefighters from multiple agencies are responding to the situation.

College Station Fire Department says they were called by the Caldwell Fire to provide assistance. College Station FD says they are sending a special operation hazmat team along with a fire truck, firefighters, and hazmat teams in order support firefighters and hazmat workers.

Three medical helicopters are also en route to the area.

The State of Texas State Operations Center says one person is still missing.
